"The field cannot be well seen from within the field."
Ralph Waldo Emerson

THE FIELD

We can think of our life as a field can’t we? A field of energy, a field of opportunity, (a field of bombs!?) – ahh the field of life. I came across the above quote a little while ago, and although it is so simple, I am struck by it’s power and significance.

"The field can not be well seen from within the field." I imagine myself in the middle of a baseball field, as I EXPERIENCE it’s vastness. I notice that my perspective of the field is limited, especially when I am trying to catch a fly ball! I can imagine the feeling of being "in it". Much like our lives…we are in our own experience, and perspective can be quickly limited when you are "playing" or living.

Now, I imagine myself looking out into the field – from the bleachers. I can see the field well – I have quite a different perspective. I can see the whole field at one glance. Although I do experience emotion and some strife (especially when my team is losing) I am able to quickly give an objective opinion of what is going on, because I see it, and my "experience" is second hand. Again, much like life.

So, if it is my goal to evolve, I would want to know how to increase my perspective from WITHIN the field. How could we go about doing this? Consider the following tips.

HOW TO SEE CLEAR WITHIN THE FIELD

1. If you want to increase perspective, increase your perception. Practice listening to your intuition, as it is one of the highest forms of self-awareness. From higher self -awareness we gain higher perspective.

2. Be open to looking at different points of view. The players on the field have a coach, why not you? It pays to get different perspective at times. A success coach or a friend can give valuable feedback about how to look at something or reframe something for your own personal gain. Be "coachable".

3. You don't know what you don't know. If you want to increase perspective in your life, increase your knowledge – and increase your knowledge about yourself. You can drown in your life’s problems and get stuck for a long, long time just due to a lack of self -awareness and personal growth. Success is so much easier when you personally evolve by choice.

4. When confronted with a tough negotiation, get smart about it. Go to the "doug out" and plan a strategy. Take a close look at the score, and innings left and write out the best plan for success.

5. Deal with your emotions about life – having a clear head and heart creates more perspective than anything does.

Coach's Challenge:

Find an area in your life where you are lacking perspective. Look at one of the 5 tips above, pick one, and do it. Make a decision to live consciously in your field of life.
